This IntellectualWare supports the ever-growing aging population and their caregivers, as well as providing healthcare devices for the disabled and their loved ones. Our technology enhances eyewear—a product that the elderly demographic already uses comfortably—to monitor the health and safety of its users and to give caregivers peace of mind. Disabled users maintain control over their lives, by restoring some independence. Examples of our patented technology include:

Activity monitor:  Our patented eyewear provides an activity level monitor to determine the user’s level of activity over a period of time, whether 5 minutes or 24 hours. Once an activity count accumulates, the activity over a period of time can be analyzed to determine the user’s activity level. With our technology, users’ physical health is monitored, and caregivers can be alerted to critical health data, such as a long absence of physical activity in a loved one or a patient.

Heart rate monitor with wireless transceiver:  Since our eyewear could incorporate a heart-rate monitor, users and their caregivers can monitor physical health and receive wireless alerts pertaining to critical health data, such as an irregular heart beat and heart rates out of a critical range. With our eyewear, a signal can be generated if the user’s heart beat is beyond a predetermined threshold appropriate for exercise, in order to alert the user or her caregiver. If the user isn’t active, the eyewear also could determine whether her resting heart rate is within a normal range.

Temperature sensor:  A temperature sensor, incorporated efficiently in our eyewear, could keep track of the user’s physical health by monitoring her body temperature. A clock embedded in the eyewear can determine when a stable reading of the user’s temperature is ready to be read. When the sensor temperature does not fluctuate beyond certain thresholds within a preset duration of time, a speaker can produce an audible tone to indicate that the temperature is now ready for the user or her caretaker to view.

lOW COST HEARING ENHANCEMENT: Attaching an inconspicuous hearing enhancement device to our everyday eyewear can reduce the social stigma imposed on hearing-aid wearers Our device amplifies sound waves at preset frequencies, and does not need the sophisticated adjustments and fittings required in hearing aids. Such an approach makes our products much more affordable. And they are particularly suitable for mild to moderate age-related hearing loss. Just like reading glasses, they can be available over the counter.

Integrated camera:  If the user notices a visible indication of her health, such as a strange skin rash or an irregular mole, she can use the camera integrated with our eyewear to record an image of the area that concerns her. She can then annotate the image, specifying, for example, “The rash has been persistent for three days. There is redness but no itch,” and send the image to her doctors. This allows the user to access medical assistance, and allows doctors to keep track of their patients’ physical conditions remotely.

Radiation sensor:  Radiation sensors incorporated with our eyewear warn the user of excessive exposure to certain radiation. In the case of UV rays, the eyewear improves awareness of diseases caused by prolonged exposure, such as skin cancer and cataracts, and can help the user prevent them.

Emotion sensor:  Our solution also addresses an issue that is frequently overlooked yet incredibly significant: the emotional wellbeing of disabled or elderly individuals. We recognize that mental health can contribute to physical health. Our eyewear includes sensors that not only can sense the wearer’s location and vital signs (e.g., heart rate), but our sensors in our eyewear could also measure emotional characteristics, such as whether the wearer is calm, excited, happy, angry, etc. This information can then be used in providing the wearer or her caregivers more complete assessments pertaining to her conditions.
